60 Seconds with WAJE
THE MORE FAMOUS a celebrity is, the harder it is to reach him. This is not because they ditch their phones or close their email addresses. No, it is simply because as their fame increases, the more projects they take on and therefore, the less free time they have. Five years ago, getting in touch with W.A.J.E would simply be a matter of one phone call, and voila! Recently, as a result of her increasing popularity, the singer’s schedule is packed with obligations from January to December. When WAJE’s busy schedule threatened to put a clog in our plans, the entire team decided to dig in deeper .If we could not get an hour with WAJE, then we would need to make do with sixty seconds. Minds made up, we sought our sixty seconds. Yes, it was difficult to ask all we needed in such a short time, but then again this is the Hip Hop World Magazine and we strive in adversity. So sit back relax and enjoy our “SIXTY SECONDS WITH WAJE”.
With stardom, it is expected that the beneficiary, will be besieged by an adoring audience, a robust bank account and superstar status. Now imagine this scenario; a certain song receives a decent amount of rotation on radio and television, and even ends up as one of the “HIT” singles of its release year. It is assumed and rightly so; that all the artistes featured on this song will be rewarded with at least a fair bit of stardom. It may surprise many, that several people are yet unable, to name the female voice behind P-Square’s 2005 smash hit “Do Me”. Her name, for the, uninformed is Waje.
Waje, a native of Edo State was born Aituague Ebele Iruobe in Akure .For several months Do Me was tagged simply as a P-Square song. The sonorous voice belting out the song’s hook was rarely acknowledged. As if to further propagate the singer’s apparent invisibility, a video was shot in South Africa and guess who was not invited? Her moniker W.A.J.E stands for Words Are Just Not Enough and dare I say; I have no words, pun intended.
