New Year New Me Syndrome, Can We Ever Get Over This?

It’s about two weeks into the New Year already and you might be thinking we are a bit late on this post.

For some reason, we decided to get you settled in the year properly before bringing this up. As it is at the beginning of every year, we are bombarded with posts and articles bearing ‘new year, new me’.

This saying makes people think there is a newness fairy that just comes at the beginning of the year to spray us all with, ‘oh I’m quitting this, I’m dumping that’ talks.

Or maybe people think there is a huge gap between the last day of the previous year and the first day of the New Year. Permit us the  honor to break this news to you, 31st of December and 1st of January is no different from yesterday and today.

Many made New Year resolutions at the beginning of the year, some to quit smoking, some to reduce sugar intake, to stop fornicating and all.

The question is, ‘Have you been able to keep up with your resolutions so far?’ If not, why subject yourself to the endless cycle of expectations and failure? Why make resolutions only to break them before the elapse of two weeks?

Why even wait till a new year before you make conscious plans to drop a bad habit or to pick a few good ones?

This post is to encourage you to hold on to those great plans you have and make deliberate efforts to become a better person for your whole life.

A wise man once said ‘it takes only 21 days to drop a bad habit’. Once you can keep up for 21 days, you become accustomed to it and you are good for life. Happy New Year again.
